Fernando López-Gatius DVM, PhD, Pr University of Lleida, went to the University of Zaragoza (DVM, 1978). In 1987 he successfully defended his PhD thesis entitled: “Preovulatory follicle palpation and deep cornual insemination in dairy cattle” in the Autonomous University Barcelona. He is specialized in bovine theriogenology, and he is developing a reproductive control based on weekly gynaecological visits since 1979. His personal experience includes approximately 866000 gynaecological exams from 1980 to 2012

At this moment, he is full professor at the University of Lleida at the Department of Animal Production. Since 1985 he has been involved in research on reproductive physiology of the cow, writing more than 160 scientific (peer-reviewed) publications related to management and clinical factors affecting the reproductive success in high producing dairy cows, and supervising a total of 12 PhD students to completion. He has presented numerous invited lectures at international scientific meetings, establishing an international network of collaborators.

Are fields of his interest/expertise: Reproductive physiology of the cow from a clinical point of view, the fertility of the high-producing dairy cow, and artificial insemination and breeding protocols for fixed-time insemination.
